On June 4, the Elive development team announced the immediate availability for download and testing of version 2.6.6 Beta of the Debian-based Elive Linux distribution built around the Enlightenment desktop environment.

Elive 2.6.6 Beta is here to bring numerous under-the-hood improvements for several components, as well as some new features, such as initial support for USB 3, bugfixes and improvements to the hibernation function, as well as several enhancements to the Clock, which can now correctly detect your timezone and the time changing between Linux and Windows.

Additionally, the built-in installer received several fixes and improvements, such as support for LUKS and LVM2 setups in the automated partitioning, a function similar to the one from Debian GNU/Linux, as well as the ability to re-use existing LUKS + LVM2 partitions to install the Elive distribution on them.

"The Elive Team is proud to announce the release of the beta version 2.6.6," reads the announcement. "We need your feedbacks and reports, each version can include new things not working as expected, if is the case please contact us on our live chat or report it to from the website!"

Elive 2.6.6 Beta includes improvements for SSD optimizations

Among other changes that have been implemented in the new Elive Linux Beta release, we can mention improvements for SSD (Solid State Drive) optimizations, faster installation process, support for TTY logings, better partitioning process, improved sentences, and an enhanced user experience when using the installer.

Last but not least, the SSH implementation now works by default and it's capable of recycling configurations from a previously installed Linux kernel-based operating system, the GRUB bootloader was disabled by default when the only installed OS is Elive, and the GRUB timeout was increased for when there are more OSes installed on the same computer.

When users choose to enable encryption during the installation of Elive, the autologin method in the graphical system is now enabled by default. Download Elive 2.6.6 Beta right now from Softpedia. Please note that this is a pre-release version and it is not suitable for installation on production machines. Also, we remind everyone attempting to use Elive Linux that the developers ask for a donation to allow you to install the OS.
