The Debian project has announced the availability for download of the sixth maintenance version of the Debian 7 Linux operating system.

Debian 7.6 is just a maintenance update, like all the previous releases so far in the series. There is nothing out of the ordinary with this new version, but new users should get this build right from the start.

"The Debian project is pleased to announce the sixth update of its stable distribution Debian 7 (codename wheezy). This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available," reads the announcement.

According to the changelog, a regression from a previous security update for catfish has been corrected, support for SHA2 in HTTPS has been improved, a segfault that occurred when transferring files has been fixed, and a new upstream release for TOR has been implemented.

As usual, if you upgrade your Debian system on a regular basis, it means that you already have the 7.6 version in place. You don't need to reinstall anything, but if you do want to install from scratch, a DVD ISO of the latest release is available for download.

Check out the complete changelog in the official announcement for more details about the release. You can also download Debian 7.6 right now from Softpedia.
