The Debian project announced the immediate availability for download of the eight maintenance release of the Debian 6 Linux operating system.

Debian 6.0.8 is just a maintenance update with very few changes, but it does feature a large number of updated packages.

“The Debian project is pleased to announce the eighth update of its oldstable distribution Debian 6.0 (codename "squeeze"). This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the oldstable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available,” reads the official announcement.

Users who already run a Debian 6.0 installation won't have to reinstall the system all over again. They just need to perform a regular update and everything will be brought up to date.
