Courts in China can now punish environmental crimes harsher than ever

It's well known that China's air pollution levels have pretty much gone haywire over these past few months.

I suppose this justifies the country government's decision to allow courts to punish environmental crimes harsher than in the past.

Still, the news that serious polluters in China risk death penalty does come as a bit of a shock.

According to Inhabitat, those who risk being sentenced to death after being charged with environmental crimes are the ones guilty of causing tremendous damage to the environment and those whose deeds have injured or even killed other people.

Interestingly enough, the Chinese government has only decided to roll out such measures after coming face to face with a series of public protests asking that companies quit endangering public health by not keeping a close eye on how much pollution their daily working routine causes.
