Dean Sheremet was married to LeAnn Rimes for almost 8 years, but he found out that she was cheating on him from the media, after she was photographed making out with her then-co-star and current husband Eddie Cibrian. He too was married at the time.

The scandal was handled so poorly by LeAnn and Eddie that they’re still paying for it with the fans. Dean, on the other hand, has moved on: he remarried and he rebooted his career as a chef. Until now, he’s also kept (mostly) mum on the topic of the split, refusing to put his ex-wife in a bad light, even after all she’d done to him.

Dean gets candid

It’s not that he’s suddenly decided he wants to drag LeAnn through the mud, but he’s finally opening up on what must have been a very painful experience. He does it with good friend Nat, for his blog Nat’s Next Adventure.

Dean explains that, long before he and LeAnn got together, he’d been writing music, so it’s not like she came and made him into someone. Yes, with her, he got his big break, especially after he also started managing her, but he never tried to ride her coattails.

If anything, he says, he put his career second so they could work on hers: she was a very talented woman, a singer made to be a star and perform in front of millions of adoring fans, and at first, it didn’t feel to him as if he was tossing his own dreams down the gutter.

As the years went by and the lines between work and their personal relationship disappeared completely, the marriage became toxic, Dean recalls. He admits that he’s as much to blame for that as she is, because neither put in the effort to keep work at the office (and on the tour) and be just married people at home.

The cheating was a shock, but what followed was even worse

So yes, they did have problems before she cheated on him with Eddie, Dean says. Still, the fact that he pushed her to do that movie with Eddie still stings, because he would have never imagined she’d cheat on him.

What followed after the cheating was just as bad, because LeAnn didn’t know what she wanted, which meant keeping him on the fence. As if lying to him both before and after the affair hadn’t been bad enough.

Dean recalls meeting Eddie before the cheating scandal, and how much he disliked his typical Hollywood boy aura: handsome and full of it. Still, he wasn’t worried because he thought LeAnn was above falling for such a guy, let alone lie to her husband and partner.

LeAnn’s career will never recover

Dean is half-bitter and half-regretful for the way things turned out with LeAnn, and you can tell from his interview that he did love her. He probably hoped until the last moment that they could still make it work, and might have even taken her back after the cheating, if she asked.

Dean is essentially the good guy-type, so hearing his thoughts on LeAnn’s career doesn’t come across as mean or cruel, but truthful.

“The dumbest thing she ever did for her career was divorce me,” he says. LeAnn’s image was tarnished for good by the cheating scandal, but in the divorce, she also lost her ideal partner. Proof of that is the fact that her last huge hit was a song they wrote together.

The worst part is that, these days, LeAnn is too focused on being a celebrity, to the detriment of her side as an artist. It’s a shame really, because she’s immensely talented.

“She really lives on the adoration of others. I could be speaking out of turn but this is my perspective. She lives and dies on the perception of herself. I sympathize with that cause she’s been famous since she was 12-years-old so she doesn’t know anything else. In LA, there’s the paparazzi and that false sense of success, false security that you’re still relevant. If you’re in the magazines, then you matter,” he explains.
