To promote her new album, “M.D.N.A.,” Madonna performed at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami this weekend. She's now come under fire from Deadmau5 for advocating drugs during the concert.

You can see a video of Madonna at the event below, but *please be warned that it contains offensive language.

At one point, Madonna asks the crowd, “How many people in this crowd have seen molly?” Molly is slang for MDMA, one of the key ingredients of ecstasy, which is quite popular on the dance scene.

As he Deadmau5 sees it, by saying this, Madonna aimed to prove she was hip and “in” with the younger crowd – but all she did was to take electronic dance music back to a time when it was closely tied with drug use in the press.

“Very classy there Madonna. 'HUR DUR HAS ANYONE SEEN MOLLY???' Such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the [expletive] philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! [expletive]-ing cant smack my head hard enough right now,” the DJ wrote on his official page.

Attacked in his turn by those who said he shouldn't be picking on Madonna, the DJ fought back by saying she shouldn't advocate drug use just because she happens to have an album to sell right now.

“[She's reached] an entirely NEW level of idiocy. I can appreciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE [expletive] WAS THAT? That’s your big contribution to EDM [electronic dance music]?” he asked.

“Thats your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? [expletive] off you [expletive]-ing IDIOT,” he concluded.

Later on, after he cooled down a bit more, Deadmau5 returned to his page to explain where he stood better, in an essay called “Responsibility.”

He says Madonna equaled EDM to drug use by saying these things on stage, knowing the press would be watching – and EDM is much more than that, and everybody, including himself, has worked very hard to prove it to the world.

“its our responsibility to make the right [choice] for each of ourselves. Not to be pandered down to us in metaphorical pill form from BIG voices as a marketing scheme to “fit in” with todays young and “hip” crowd to sell a [expletive] CD,” he concludes.
