Deadly Creatures Are Crawling to the Wii

- Scorpions, tarantulas and spiders are ready to invade Nintendo's console

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

Terror, poisonous scorpions, snakes and spiders, a desert world of venomous terror – these are not things that really go hand in hand with the Nintendo Wii, right? We're used to see there all the strangest,
low-budget, low-on-ideas, low-graphics games, so when a game like Deadly Creatures is announced, you can only get really excited.

Deadly Creatures is a third person action thriller where players control an armored Scorpion and a Tarantula as they fight for survival against Gila monsters, lizards, black widows and more terrifying creatures. Of course, the deadliest enemy you will encounter will be The Man. That sounds like a lot of fun already!

"Deadly Creatures is a creepy, cinematic thrill ride, where the distinction between predator and prey can shift around every corner," said Nick Wlodyka, executive producer and general manager, Rainbow Studios. "With brutal motion-controlled combat, a dark compelling story and some of the best visuals to date on the Wii, we are excited to bring Deadly Creatures to a large core Wii audience that hungers for a new experience."

You got that right, Nick! There really was a big need for some new experiences on the Nintendo Wii consoles. And a brutal Scorpion or a stealthy Tarantula are exactly (or somewhere near) what we really needed. Having in mind that we will control these creatures using the Wiimote and strike some combos that would make Devil May Cry... cry, we are really happy. Not to mention that we have never controlled, in a video game, two of the deadliest creatures from the real world.

"Deadly Creatures is an amazingly innovative game concept, and exemplifies THQ’s commitment to creating original new IP for the Nintendo Wii platform," said Randy Shoemaker, director of global brand management, THQ. "With Deadly Creatures, we are raising the bar for all 3rd party Wii titles, and focusing on deep, compelling gameplay for a largely untapped audience of Wii gamers."

The game has no specific release date set, but it will come sometime during 2008. Patience, my friends, patience!
