A bombing attack in Dibis district, near the city of Kirkuk in Iraq has resulted in four people dying and 114 being injured.

According to the Frontier Post, the blast occurred at approximately 10:00 am at a police station. Kirkuk police spokesman Col. Salam al-Jaf details that three officers and a female bystander have been killed as a suicide bomber brought explosives to the station by attaching them to a vehicle.

“A suicide bomber in a booby-trapped car attacked al-Dibis police station, killing three policemen and one woman who was near the scene of the blast, and wounding [...] mostly civilians,” al-Jaf tells Al-Shorfa.

“Security forces blocked the explosion vicinity while the death toll is still unidentified yet,” a source in law enforcement states for Iraqi News.

While the number of wounded bystanders was originally estimated at 47, a final head count reveals that 114 people have incurred injuries in the crash.

There is no indication about the identity of the woman dying in the explosion, except for her being a bystander.

While the police station was targeted in the attack, the facility is located near a secondary school. Among the wounded were police officers and several students and teachers at the "Walat" school.

Fana News informs that the institution for Kurdish studies was holding morning classes at the time, and the majority of its students were in school.

The police building has incurred extensive structural damage, as have personal residences in the area, and the cars in the parking lot have been wrecked, as well.

“The blast caused major parts of the police building to collapse, destroyed a number of civilian and security vehicles parked in the vicinity, and caused material damages to houses near the targeted police station,” al-Jaf adds.

“The attack carries al-Qaeda's fingerprints,” he hints, while the organization has not claimed the incident as of yet.
