Video game publisher Tecmo Koei announces that it is planning to launch its newly announced Dead or Alive 5 free version on Western markets, using the name Core Fighters.

The fighting game will offer just four fighters taken from the extensive roster of the series and will introduce all other game content, apart from the story mode and downloadable content that have been delivered since launch.

Initially, the free Dead or Alive 5 was only confirmed as coming to the Japan version of the PlayStation Network, according to Gematsu.

Tecmo Koei says that the game is designed to be offered only digitally and players who like the core game systems will be able to pay in order to get access to new fighters and to the story mode.

Dead or Alive 5, both retail and in its Core Fighters incarnation, will be delivered in the United States on September 3 and three days later in Europe.
