Barely has Dead Space 2 been launched around the world, and Electronic Arts, its publisher, is already detailing the first piece of downloadable content that will be released for the game.

Dead Space 2 continues the story of the original, with leading man Isaac Clarke trying to recover from the trauma he suffered in the first title, while trying to escape an infected space base.

The first DLC, entitled Severed, will introduce two new standalone chapters into the single-player story.

These won't focus on Isaac, however, as they'll feature two characters from the Dead Space: Extraction title, which was released a few years ago for the Nintendo Wii and yesterday for the PlayStation 3, as a digital download.

Players will step into the shoes of Gabe Weller, who, with the help of fellow Extraction teammate Lexine Mudock, progress through a short story in parallel with Isaac Clarke in the full pledged Dead Space 2.

The two characters were working as security guards on the Sprawl space station, where the action of the game takes place, and must fight the necromorphs in order to get to safety and escape the deadly aliens.

As of yet, the Dead Space 2 Severed DLC was just confirmed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms, but an announcement for the PC may arrive at a later time.

No word on price or when it is released, so you'll still need to enjoy the regular single-player campaign as well as the multiplayer mode from the regular Dead Space 2.

The survival horror title has been developed by Visceral Games, and is being hyped as one of the most terrifying experiences in the realm of interactive entertainment.

Dead Space 2 has just been launched on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, while its prequel, Dead Space: Extraction, was released for the PlayStation 3, complete with PlayStation Move support, yesterday, as a digital download from the PlayStation Store.
