Dead Space 2 is available for three weeks now, and plenty of people are extremely pleased with the thrilling horror experience delivered, even if a few inconsistencies are present here and there.

In between fighting the evil monsters through the confined corridors of the Sprawl space station, main protagonist Isaac Clarke also manages to reach certain memorable locations throughout the game.

The most impressive one, at least in my view, was the Ishimura space ship, which had been the main setting of the first Dead Space game.

While going back to previous locations can often feel like an excuse to reuse old assets and shorten game development time, Visceral Games really rose to the opportunity and made it feel fresh.

The studio managed to bring back some of the most memorable locations from the Ishimura, including the likes of decontamination zones or the bridge, but overhauled their appearance, through the excuse that the Ishimura was being renovated at the Sprawl when the aliens started appearing.

The development team left the ship largely necromorph free, instead relying on the psychological horror aspect to do its job, and delivered more exposition, but also developed the impact the death of Nicole, Isaac's girlfriend, had on the space engineer.

Another memorable place, but this time due to the inherent creepiness, was the school level, where Isaac needed to go through necromorph-infested play areas.

Here, the twisted imagination of the Visceral Games crew is more than evident, as Isaac gets attacked not just by the regular aliens, but also by necromorph children and babies.

Things remain challenging enough due to the variety of enemy attacks, from the ambushing children to the explosive babies and the deadly adult ones, but while all of them are pretty scary, the background and the decorations of the school level, make the whole experience that much more creepy.
