Reuters says, Electronic Arts won't confirm

Responsible for the publishing of the original Dead Space on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Electronic Arts hasn't announced anything about the critically acclaimed horror game receiving another addition to the series. Even if the developer that worked on the first title, Visceral Games, has already started looking for people to work on Dead Space 2, official announcements have yet to emerge.

Still, the game might be a lot closer than anyone thinks. In its job listing, Visceral said that, "The game is in the later stages of preproduction, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place."

So, for all fans of the series that expect the game as soon as next year, Reuters has some good news. On Friday, October 30, the press agency announced that the game would arrive by the end of 2010. Now, it didn't offer any other details and didn't mention anything that would lead us to believe it had some sort of official or inside piece of information as regarded the matter.

The first game did incredibly well, with more than 1.4 million copies sold across the world, but the second attempt at a Dead Space addition to the franchise ended up as a crash-and-burn. The Wii spin-off, Dead Space Extraction, barely sold 9,200 copies in its first week in the United States. So, all past events tend to lead towards a proper Dead Space sequel.

Even so, EA is not ready to announce the project and it didn't confirm the Reuters news. GamesSpot decided to take this directly to the source and talked to EA itself, through one of its representatives. "This comment by the Reuters reporter is speculative. There is no announcement for a Dead Space sequel (or in this case, prequel) beyond Dead Space Extraction." If we look closer at the official response from EA, we clearly see that it doesn't support the tease about Dead Space 2, but also that it doesn't deny it in the least bit. It just made it clear that it was not the source of the story, so the game will most likely truly arrive in 2010.
