Capcom, like all big publishers interested in profiting from a bit of free publicity, is neither confirming, nor denying the rumors, but more and more reports are surfacing and reveal that Dead Rising, the Xbox 360 published zombie shooting game, is getting a sequel which is in development at the Blue Castle studio.

The first rumors appeared as early as February, when the Electronic Gaming Magazine said that a sequel was being considered. Then, both Kotaku and Eurogamer talked about Blue Castle as being involved. Eurogamer even quoted an insider source saying that “Everyone's really excited; the team has obviously seen the rumors, and it's been hard to keep quiet, but they can't wait to show off the game”.

At the moment, Capcom is preparing to release a Nintendo Wii version of the game, called Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, designed to offer the same experience of intense fighting and survival horror on the popular gaming console, while allowing players to control the main character using the motion tracking of the Wii. The game will be graphically less impressive than the original Xbox 360 version because of the limited possibilities of the Nintendo Wii.

The first game in the series played like a George Romero created zombie movie, with the main character trapped in a mall where he has to fight dangerous human survivors and zombies as he investigates the cause of the zombie outbreak while also gathering around him other survivors. The game sported some very intense moments and achieved critical and commercial success, making a sequel almost inevitable for Capcom. Almost nothing is known about the new game in the Dead Rising series, but a change concerning the main character is highly possible as the original protagonist, Frank West, appears to surrender himself to the zombies as the first game ends.
