Dead Island: Riptide, the upcoming sequel to the 2011 surprise hit Dead Island, will be released in April 2013, according to publisher Deep Silver, who has also confirmed two special versions of the game.

Dead Island impressed a lot of people back in 2011 with its pretty decent first-person zombie-killing experience, featuring not just shooting, but also allowing players to use a variety of objects against the undead, from swords to bats or broom handles.

Now, developer Techland is working hard on a sequel, in the form of Dead Island: Riptide, which has now received a release date from publisher Deep Silver.

According to the company, Dead Island: Riptide will be released on April 23, 2013, in North America, and on April 26, in Europe and the rest of the world, for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Besides the actual game, two special versions are now available for pre-order, in the form of the actual Pre-Order Edition, as well as a Special Retailers Edition. Check out the contents of the two packs below, via an official statement.

- Pre-order Edition: This version of Dead Island Riptide will include an exclusive pack of weapon mods that allows even more, manifold ways to dispose of the ghastly zombie hordes on Palanai island.

- Special Retailers Edition: In addition to the weapon mods this version will contain an alternate character skin not obtainable anywhere else! The Special Edition of Dead Island Riptide will only be available at selected retail partners. Details about the retail partners per territory offering the Special Edition will be announced soon. The Special Retailers Edition will also feature an alternative packshot.

In case you forgot, Dead Island: Riptide is a spinoff based on the first game and features new survivors that will be forced to battle legions of undead monsters on a new tropical island.

Expect to hear more details about Riptide in the following months.
