The publisher isn't working on a sequel for the zombie game with Yager

After achieving impressive sales with Dead Island last year, publisher Deep Silver has now confirmed that a sequel for the zombie killing game is not in development yet and that it isn’t working with Spec Ops: The Line studio Yager on any projects.

Dead Island was a completely new intellectual property set in the pretty crowded zombie genre, but this didn't stop it from becoming a best seller, making lots of money for developer Techland and publisher Deep Silver last year.

Now, with a special Dead Island: Game of the Year Edition reportedly preparing for launch, Deep Silver has started squashing any rumors that a Dead Island 2 is in development at Yager.

"We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager about any project at this point," Deep Silver Development Director Guido Eickmeyer, told IGN.

While this is a pretty major denial, Eickmeyer did hint that a possible collaboration between Deep Silver and Yager in terms of the Dead Island property might become a reality in the future.

"Yager and Deep Silver do have a very close relationship, based on personal and professional connections between the parties. There is a legitimate chance that we will - at some point - work together on a title - and I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise," he added.

Before new rumors start to appear, he clarified by saying that, "We have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners."

Are you looking forward to a Dead Island sequel or are you still enjoying the actual zombie game?
