Dead Island proved to be very popular, and now the upcoming sequel, Dead Island 2, seems set to become an even bigger hit.

With the development effort undertaken by Yager Development, a studio most known for having created Spec Ops: The Line, a challenging military shooter that focused on much more than just where to point the business end of your gun, the game seems to be really taking off.

A Gamescom interview with Eurogamer allows us to get a sneak peek at some gameplay footage from the upcoming first-person adventure game, and to find the answer to some crucial questions, such as how do baseball bats work and where are we going to get gasoline for our chainsaws from.

"Our heroes, they don't try to escape. They're exactly where they wanna be. They're in zombie-infested California because they're really, really good at killing zombies and that's what they do best," Design Director Jorg Friedrich explains.

The alpha build footage shows some really exciting action, with the crazy melee combat that's at the heart of the series greatly refined by Yager, after taking custody of the game from former devs Techland.

The survival horror video game is currently scheduled to come out in the spring of 2015, headed for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
