The development team at Bohemia Interactive working on the hugely successful DayZ survival title announces that it will deliver at least one major update for the game in the coming months, which will include new content, like fireplaces, bows and crossbows for gamers to use.

The studio is aiming to create a more efficient overall structure for the title, which means that it is eliminating a number of the spam-like messages that the server and the game client are currently sending to one another, while adding various other tech-related improvements.

At the same time, they are adding fireplaces to the game in order to allow players to have a source of heat and light, which will be updated as work on DayZ progresses.

More ragdoll physics are also being introduced and in an official blog post, the company explains that, “Progress on ragdoll has been steady although this is unlikely to be in experimental next week and will be ongoing for some time. A new animation system and animations have been made that allow you to ‘power’ up your throw, the same system is used to allow you to draw your arrow when firing from the bow.”

When it comes to weaponry, gamers will be able to use bows and crossbows in order to silently take out their enemies and a new P1 pistol is being added.

Bohemia Interactive adds, “We’re wrapping up our part with archery and have a nice looking improvised bow and crossbow to release soon. Our animators have been spending time in the mocap studio to get accurate drawing, firing, and reloading animations for them and its looking great.”

An AK-47 will also be introduced to DayZ, but the team needs a little more time to polish some of the mechanics associated with the machine gun before it is made available to gamers.

Players are set to be able to access new character heads and a new Soviet style hat and tracksuit.

Bohemia Interactive says that its next priorities for DayZ include police, emergency medical technicians and firefighters.

The survival horror title is set to get a variety of more updates in 2014, as it moves towards full beta status.

The game, despite being still in development, has quickly become the most successful launch for Bohemia Interactive, even as original creator Dean Hall is leaving the company in order to test out other multiplayer-focused ideas.
