The first-person survival horror video game DayZ is slated to get two updates soon, implementing a lot of fixes to the game's alpha client.

Bohemia Interactive's standalone edition of DayZ, formerly a very popular Arma 2 mod, is currently in alpha on Steam Early Access, and the upcoming Update 0.48, scheduled to drop on August 13, will offer players a lot of fixes to containers, the world chat, some melee combat issues, as well as camera problems that have been reported by fans.

The update will also add persistent containers and items, which is a feature that the community was demanding for quite some time.

The update is meant as a quick fix to some of the problems that the developers managed to fix, and later in the month, another more sizable patch will become available for fans of running from zombies and shooting other virtual people.

Update 0.49 is supposed to come with several more fixes, as well as a completely new feature that allows survivors to plant their own food, and settle down and grow crops instead of scavenging for canned stuff.

This should prove to be a pretty helpful feature, as in DayZ you can starve to death, and pass out and wake up handcuffed by some random guy who asks you to sing and dance if you don't want to get shot, so growing your own food should reduce the chance of getting gunned down while foraging.

The developers will also add swine to the game too, which means that you'll be able to buckle down and create a veritable Amish paradise for you and your loved ones, at least until the next homicidal maniac stops by.

In addition to this, the devs also discussed their plans to approach the hit detection during swing issue, stating that the entire melee system was being redone, and that the task would take some time, which was why the team would use cursor-based detection for melee for the time being.

Furthermore, there is also some talk regarding the possibility of players renting "shards" of the DayZ "hive," which will enable dedicated communities to create their own private worlds, but with no date offered for when the feature will be enabled, for the time being.

The fanbase however is complaining the most about hackers and loot respawning, which the two updates don't seem to address, but considering that Bohemia warned people not to buy the game yet, it's not such a big deal.
