Dawn of War II Gets 2 vs. 2 Game Mode, Maps

Relic has really stepped up to listen to what players want and to deliver on their requests when it comes to Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, the title that changed the way we look at strategy games earlier in the year.

The developer has just announced that it plans to offer a big update for the game that is set to come shortly (although no clear dates has been unveiled) and add a new multiplayer game mode, which allows for 2 versus 2 matches, while also introducing fresh maps created specifically for this type of game.

When Dawn of War II was initially released, it only allowed gamers to play multiplayer matches one on one or 3 versus 3, although ever since the multiplayer beta, some declared that they were interested in matches pitching teams of 2 players against one another.

One could set up a 2 vs. 2 match by eliminating one player for each side in a custom made match, but the maps were ill suited for such games. So, the addition of a native way to play teams of 2, while also offering 2 maps for the fresh mode is especially good news, considering that players will not have to pay for them.

The fresh maps are called Medean Cliff mines and Ruins of Argus and will be set on Calderis. The former is built around a central hub that must be controlled to ensure victory; the latter is an urban map that allows for a lot of cover and some pretty cool set piece battles.

The update should also contain an upgrade for the skirmish Artificial Intelligence, a new voice chat system and more options related to customization of squads. More details will be offered as the update approaches its release date.
