War everywhere

PC gaming has been subject to quite a lot of controversy in recent months, as piracy has been on the lips of quite a few developers and other industry analysts, as they released lists of countries that indulge piracy and where the most users who tend to pirate new video games or software releases are found.

But that doesn't mean that things aren't going well in the retail sales sector, as we have just received the new PC sales charts from all the big sectors, including the NPD retail ones and the digital Steam and Direct2Drive data, all of which show one single winner that managed to take down the World of Warcraft or Sims 2 fan favorites, Dawn of War II, a title that we recently reviewed.

As Relic Entertainment's title dominates all the charts, below it we see another very interesting contender, in the form of Sega's Empire: Total War pre-sale edition, which arrives to the big number of Steam and Direct2Drive users who pre-ordered it today in North America and tomorrow in other territories. Also, various special editions of the former games in the series, like the Total War Mega Pack or Rome: Total War are also selling quite well on the online content distribution networks.

In terms of the other titles making the chart, various editions of World of Warcraft and Sims 2 are also present, as always, as a testimony to the big number of fans they have. The sequel to the horror shooter FEAR is there too, as gamers still haven't gotten bored with the creepy Alma, which returns to give players more thrills. Here are the complete charts:

1. Dawn of War II 2. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King 3. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe 4. The Sims 2 Deluxe 5. Spore 6. World Of Warcraft Battle Chest 7. World Of Warcraft 8. FEAR 2 9. The Sims 2 Apartment Life Exp. Pack 10. Crysis Warhead

All in all, it seems that strategy games are still selling quite well and the PC is a viable platform, despite its drawbacks.
