David Slade (Hard Candy, Do Geese See God?) will direct horror film 30 Days of Night for Columbia Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie, based on the Steve Niles graphic novel, tells the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. As the last rays of light fade, the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires bent on an uninterrupted orgy of destruction.
Only the small town's husband-and-wife Sheriff and Deputy, who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love, stand between the survivors and certain destruction.
30 Days of Night is the latest production from Ghost House Pictures, a company launched by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert.
Grant Curtis is overseeing the production for Ghost House, while Mike Richardson, Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane are executive producing.
Columbia will handle North American distribution of the film as well as in a few international territories, while Mandate Pictures will handle the remaining international rights.
