David Lynch, considered the 'Frank Capra of dream logic' is to receive the much dreamed of Golden Lion Award as acknowledgment of his entire work, the organizers of the ceremony announced on Friday.
The director was already awarded a Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990, for his film 'Wild at Heart'. He is famous for his ground-breaking and unconventional movies that focus more on the unseen beauty of things, on the mysterious and, more than once, horrific side of every story that comes his way.
Lynch's credits include smashing hits at the box-office and publicly acclaimed films like 'Mulholland Drive', 'The Elephant Man', 'Blue Velvet' and the TV series that became a genuine phenomenon back in the '90s, 'Twin Peaks'.
This year's Venice ceremony will also feature a screening of his latest work, 'Inland Empire', starring Laura Dern and Jeremy Irons and which will be shown as a tribute to the director and not as part of the competition. The festival begins on August 30 and ends on September 9.
