Back in 2009, David Letterman’s public image took a serious hit when word got out that he had been cheating on his new wife (but girlfriend of 23 years) with some of his female staff. He’s finally opening up about the scandal and how it affected his marriage.

Below are two excerpts from Letterman’s interview with Oprah for Oprah’s Next Chapter on OWN.

He admits that he’s been in therapy since he admitted to cheating on Regina, his wife, and that he’s still trying to figure out what it was that pushed him to do such a thing.

He also talks about having to face the music and how, for a while, he actually tried to play the public and go for the sympathy vote.

Letterman knows that he can’t change the past, so he’s not pointing fingers at anyone but himself for what happened. His only focus right now is on becoming the man he once thought or feigned he was.

Check out what he had to say.
