I found him going through Meryl Streep’s purse backstage, Letterman tells James Franco

One of the critical surprises of this spring is Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers” with James Franco, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. Franco was on David Letterman the other night to promote it and, while there, he found out why Korine was banned for life from the show.

Check it out in the video below.

For years, rumors said that Letterman banned Korine for being too difficult (or better yet, impossible) to interview. Above is a video of his first appearance on the show, in 1995, to discuss “Kids,” whose script he wrote.

As Letterman explains to Franco, that wasn’t the real reason, as neither was that Korine allegedly shoved Meryl Streep backstage.

“I went upstairs to greet Meryl Streep and welcome her to the show, and I knock on the door... and she was not in there,” Letterman says.

“And I looked around and she was not in there, and I found Harmony going through her purse. True story. And so I said, ‘That's it, put her things back in her bag and then get out’,” he adds.

Korine was never again invited to be on the show and, by the look on David’s face, he has no intention of doing so anytime soon.
