The ‘80s were all about having fun and looking cool

The most amazing and unexpected thing happened the other night on American Idol: David Hasselhoff, former “Baywatch” hunk and aspiring pop star, came up on stage to teach the aspiring singers in the competition something about the ‘80s.

And then he performed a medley of ‘80s hits, because, obviously, he couldn’t provide them only with the theoretical part. Video of the performance is included below.

There’s a reason why The Hoff’s musical career only took off in Germany, where, by the way, he still is pretty famous: as charming a presence as he might be, he’s not that great of a singer.

That is obvious with the medley below, but what mattered in the end was that the audience and the 3 judges on the show seemed to love it. So yes, The Hoff is still a pretty bad singer, but at least he’s having fun and he’s not taking himself too seriously, which is not something that could be said about many of today’s pop “stars.”

He also gets a bonus point from me for not succumbing to the temptation of using Autotune in the hope of coming across as a better singer. That would have really made this performance impossible to watch.
