David Hasselhoff has had some serious alcohol-related problems in the past, and it looks like he's back in drinking mode. In fact, he seems to have relapsed so hard, that he had to be taken to hospital (Cedars Sinai Medical Centre to be more precise) where he is currently detoxing. His representative, Judy Katz, confirmed that the Hoff had a relapse and was in the hospital, but she insisted that he was doing just fine. In a statement, Katz announced that "David had a brief relapse and immediately recognized the importance of addressing it with the assistance of his doctors. He is doing fine and will be back home in the morning".
TMZ reports that Hasselhoff has been in Romania for the past six weeks, reportedly off working on Anaconda 3. His own website however has him in Romania shooting a new series for the Sci Fi Channel. Either way, whatever happened that made him fall off the wagon must have been pretty bad. A source close to David and who was at the hospital when the actor was brought in states that "David does so well staying sober and then something kicks in and he's back drinking. He looked awful when they brought him in. His color was ashen. He felt sick. It was just so sad".
I'm not sure if you remember it, but Hasselhoff has a long history of drinking problems. He was in rehab in 2002 and in 2004 he managed to get himself busted for DUI. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI in June, 2004 and was given three years probation, 200 hours of community service and ordered to attend AA meetings for six months. This year in May, a tape was released showing him laying shirtless and completely drunk on the floor and trying to eat a cheeseburger. The video was shot by one of his two daughters, who is also heard talking in the background and saying "Tell me you are going to stop, tell me you are going to stop".
His daughter allegedly shot the tape to show her father just how degrading it was to be drunk and lose control over his body completely. After the tape was released (rumor has it that his bitter ex wife Pamela Bach was behind the so-called leak and was trying to make him look bad in view of the custody battle they were involved in at the time), David took responsibility for his problem and tried to sober up. It all seemed to be working, but apparently not anymore. Hasselhoff has primary physical and sole legal custody of his two teenage daughters, Hayley and Taylor, and everybody is wondering if his relapse is going to affect this in any way. Hope not. Either way, we'll bring you more news as it comes out.
