The divorce proceedings for the singer Liza Minnelli and her former husband, David Gest, are just getting more and more complicated by the day. While only last week, what proved to begin as an 'amicable separation', has turned into a bitter fight and blame shifting scenario.
Liza (60) claimed that she had been 'living in terror' that her husband was actually poisoning her, while Gest said that his beloved wife had entered the marriage with a sexually transmitted disease, of which she failed to let him know.
'David was devastated when he found [this] out a year after they had been together and six months after they were married', David's attorney said during the last court hearing. Also, at the time, he hinted that his client might ask for the prenuptial contract to be disregarded, on the basis that the wealthy singer did not inform him of her 'condition'.
Now, Gest is doing just that. He filed another court claim, asking the judge to nullify the prenuptial contract, just as he had threatened a few days ago. Besides citing as reason the herpes, he also stated that his former wife was a 'violent alcoholic', always prone to violence. This is not the first time that the Z-list celebrity is stating that he had been repeatedly physically abused by Liza Minnelli.
Until now, Gest was asking only for £7 million out of Liza's vast estate, but - if the judge grants him his request and disregards the prenup - he just may walk away with more money than he ever dreamed of having. And he won't ever be able to say again that he took all those 'beatings' for nothing...
