Developer 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft have announced that well-known Hollywood director David Fincher will act as executive producer and Tim Miller as the director of the launch trailer for the upcoming Halo 4, which will reintroduce the gaming world to protagonist Master Chief.

The extended two minute trailer will be launched on October 18 during the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon television show and will then be offered to fans both on Halo Waypoint and the official Xbox YouTube channel.

The official trailer is called Scanned and will show off both the backstory of Master Chief and the nature of the new threat that he faces in Halo 4.

The live action sequences are filmed in Prague in the Czech Republic.

Tim Miller is a special effects specialist best known for his work on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

He stated, “I’m excited about the opportunity to direct the ‘Halo 4’ launch trailer in creative partnership with 343 Industries and David Fincher. Halo is one of the most iconic sci-fi universes, with a depth that allows for amazingly cinematic and emotionally riveting stories. The chance to tell a story that explores never-before-seen facets of Master Chief’s journey is an honor.”

David Fincher is known for directing movies like Fight Club, The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

He added, “I enjoy collaborating with Tim Miller, who is at the visual and technical forefront of hybridised live-action/CGI – not only pushing the boundary but defining it.”

Frank O’Connor, who is the franchise developer working on Halo 4 at 343 Industries, has expressed his excitement at the chance to work with such amazing talent in order to create the trailer for Halo 4.

The game itself will be launched exclusively on the Xbox 360 home console on November 6.
