The “X-Files” series is coming back to TV in January, which means that leading couple David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson must already be preparing to get back to work. Meanwhile, they’re also hanging out like friends and making the dreams of longtime “X-Files” nerds come true.

The other night, David released his debut album “Hell or Highwater” and he promoted it with a live show in New York’s The Cutting Room. As you can see in the video below, Gillian was his surprise guest, even hopping on stage for a duet on the Neil Young classic “Helpless.”

At the end of the performance, which was very well received by the fans in attendance, the two hugged it out and shared a brief but very sweet PDA moment, when David kissed Gillian on the lips.

Clearly, it was just a friendly smooch, but it was more than enough to start those dating rumors all over again and to get fans of the series thinking of what might have been if Mulder and Scully had become a couple at some point on the original series.

Hey, it might not be too late. Perhaps the revival can set this wrong right again, though I doubt this would be in the interest of the show in any way.

Here’s the performance and the adorable smooch. David and Gillian are actually good friends in real life.
