David Carradine, star of Tarantino’s “Kill Bill,” “Kung Fu” and countless other karate movies, was found dead in his Bangkok suite after hanging himself in a closet, The Nation informs. Police believe the 72-year-old actor committed suicide since there was no sign of fighting or altercation.

However, the news did come as a shock to Carradine’s colleagues, since he was in Bangkok to shoot for a new movie, “Stretch.” Other cast members only thought to have his room checked when they noticed it had been many hours since he had shown face, an absence that was too long to be justified by the fact that he was 72 and was starting to suffer from old age “ailments.” When they reached his room at the hotel, they found him hanging in a closet.

“Carradine, 72, was in Bangkok to shoot his latest movie, Stretch, and stayed at a Suite Room 352 of the Park Nai Lert Hotel on Wireless Road since June 2. The film crew were aware of his absence when they went to dine out at a restaurant on Sathorn Road on June 3. Carradine did not show up at the dinner and the team could not reach him. They assumed that he took a rest because of his age. It was a hotel’s maid who opened his suite on Thursday at 10 am only to find Carradine in a closet. Police investigation showed that he hung himself with a rope, the kind that is used with curtains.” the aforementioned publication informs.

Police officers on the scene established that the actor had been dead for almost 12 hours when they came in. Although the possibility of foul play has already been ruled out – since there was no sign of a struggle or of assault, neither in the room nor on Carradine’s body – the idea of the actor taking his own life seems a bit too much to grasp for all those who knew or have had the pleasure of working with him, it is being said.

Chuck Binder, Carradine’s manager, confirmed the news to BBC, describing it and the idea he might have taken his own life as “shocking.” “He was full of life, always wanting to work... a great person.” Binder further said for BBC, as quoted by The Nation.
