Heavy Rain was one of the most innovative titles seen recently in the video game world, with its focus on character movements and emotions, but the creator behind the experience says that he is not interested in ever creating a sequel for it.

Speaking with Developer as part of a bigger interview, David Cage, the leader of development studio Quantic Dream, has stated, “Let me be stupid for one second; I’m not in this business to make money. I wrote Heavy Rain because I was excited about it, because there was something to say. Yeah I could make Heavy Rain 2, but I’ve said what I’ve had to say about it. That’s the strength of Quantic Dream, to have the capacity to create new ideas, to make something that breaks ground.”

Cage says that he does not have a long-term plan for his career linked to creating endless sequels for his most successful video game projects.

He added, “I’m an old game creator. I’m 42 this year. There are so many old game designers who have passion when they are young and they get a bit a bit older and the passion falls away. They get a family, and suddenly they think ‘okay I need to make as much money as I can for my family – this is what matters.’ I’ve not reached that stage yet.”

The Quantic Dream developer says that he still believes in innovation and is always trying to test the limits of the industry and the hardware that is currently available.

He also commented on creating video games that do not feature guns prominently, saying that publishers are reluctant to devote significant marketing resources to them.

At the moment David Cage and Quantic Dream are again working with Sony on an unannounced project, but rumors suggest that it might use the PlayStation Move motion tracking system.
