The developer wants to create emotion-filled experiences

David Cage, the leader of the Quantic Dream studio, says that he is interested in creating complex video games experiences in order to share his ideas and his emotions rather than in order to simply make money.

He tells VG247 that, “I don’t make games to make money. I make games by passion, because I want to share something, because I have something to tell.”

Despite his indifference to monetary rewards, the developer has managed to get a solid return on his previous title, Heavy Rain.

At the moment, he is working on Beyond: Two Souls, a new game that tests the limits of motion capture technology and aims to deliver even more emotion to players.

He exemplified the kind of ideas he wants to share by talking about one of the scenes from Beyond, which involves a homeless woman giving birth and will probably generate much discussion when the game is out.

David Cage adds, “I thought that having someone who was pregnant would be something very interesting. It gives you a contrast between the difficulty of someone living on the streets and the fact that this cycle keeps happening, that a new life’s coming. That there’s hope.”

Beyond uses a newly developed type of motion capture technology that will allow the team to match character voices to their movements and create more depth and immersion.

The game stars both Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe and deals with a supernatural presence and its effects on the characters' lives. The developers are also interested in the way humans cope with death and loss.

Cage has also shown a demo linked to the PlayStation 4 and rumors suggest that Quantic Dream is already working on a title for the platform, once again focused on the emotional response of players.

Beyond: Two Souls is a PlayStation 3 exclusive that will be offered all over the world on October 8.
