AskMen.com has made public its "Top 49 Men of 2007" and guess who has just been named the number one "man's man"? Why, it's David Beckham, y'all, and I'm pretty sure the reason for which this happened is that since he hasn't been playing too much football, David has had plenty of time to engage in other interesting activities that allowed him to show his "manly" side to the world. I'm being mean again - or you can call it realism, whatever you choose, but you have to agree with me: even when he's doing nothing, this guy is totally hot.
AskMen.com's Top 49 Men of 2007 list was drawn up after over one million Internet users cast their votes and expressed their opinions as to which male star deserves to be called "the most masculine male".
David - who moved to the States over the summer (wife and kids in tow) after signing a reported $250 million contract with soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy - earned some serious praise for his...well, yes, many manly attributes, with the website stating: "Between his tremendous talent, English charm, stylish wardrobe, and slick haircuts, Becks is single-handedly making soccer relevant Stateside".
The "Bourne Ultimatum" star Matt Damon came second, followed by hip-hop producer Timbaland who was named third, followed by another sports star, tennis powerhouse Roger Federer who came fourth, while pop star Justin Timberlake rounded off the top five.
The top 49 men were selected from a shortlist of 100 "ambassadors of male-kind" also nominated by AskMen.com readers. Basically, this was a "what guys think about guys" thing. James Bassil, the website's editor-in-chief, stated that "the Top 49 list is unique among celebrity rankings in that it is created by our AskMen.com readers, rather than a stable of editors. This allows us to get a true sense of today's most respected male role models across industries such as entertainment, sports and technology". Well, I don't know about respect but these guys definitely know how to play the celebrity game - and win. Good for them!
