It could have been one of the most successful and lucrative collaborations, both in fashion and in showbiz, ever in the history of mankind. It could have also been the coming to life of a dream for many, where they would have seen the two most beautiful people together in the same shot. However, the David Beckham and Angelina Jolie Armani ad campaign is not happening – and never was, Becks says in a recently released statement.

Word of this first broke in the media a little over a week ago, and came short on the heels of the unveiling of David and Victoria’s latest campaign for the fashion brand. Armani, it was said, had been courting Jolie for a little over three years, and she had finally accepted to become the new face of the label and shoot an ad with David, granted she was offered full creative control, it was pointed out at the time. Luckily, Becks is now saying none of this was ever true.

“I definitely don't think that’s true. Think it’s something put out in the press. She’s an amazing person and so is Brad. They’re an incredible couple – got an amazing family. You know she wouldn’t do it and I wouldn’t do it. At the end of the day, I wouldn’t do it because I’m married.” David said of the rumored fashion campaign, thus killing the dream of many of seeing him and Angelina work together.

In all fairness, it is being added, Beckham does make a pretty solid point. As it was reported, the ad with Angelina would have been similar to the ones David shot with his wife Victoria, which, in itself, should speak volumes as to what fans expected. The idea, it was explained at the time, was to make the campaign (whether it was also for a lingerie line or not was not known) hot without forgetting that both David and Angelina were married, and it represented a real dilemma for the creative staff at Armani.

“When you have David Beckham and Angelina Jolie signed up to your fashion house it’s a no-brainer to link them up. They appeal to a diverse audience and a collaboration would create so much publicity it would push Armani head and shoulders above their rivals. There are a few contract issues to be addressed but marketing experts are being tasked with coming up with clever ideas for a print campaign. […] The two are exceptionally beautiful on camera but both are in committed relationships so the advert would have to be [hot] without offending their partners.” an unnamed source was telling the media a while back.
