Football star David Beckham recently found his name in the tabloid media again after a woman told InTouch Weekly about the affair she reportedly had with him. Now, David is asking for £16 million in damages for spreading lies.

As we also informed you at the time, Irma Nici, who works an escort, sold her story to the magazine, saying she had an affair with Becks back in 2007 – and even had proof to back her story up.

The moment this got out in the media, a rep for the Beckhams said that they would sue both Nici and the magazine to which she went with her story, because there was not a grain of truth to it.

InTouch, says News of the World, was so convinced that Nici was telling the truth that it didn’t even bother to ask to see the proof of the affair she claimed she had.

Thus, both will have to forge over £16 million plus damages for running a story that is basically a lie, as it has been established that Nici never even met David.

“The £16 million lawsuit accuses Irma of damaging Becks’ reputation and causing him ‘mental anguish’,” News of the World writes.

Nici insists her story is true but she seems to have “mysteriously” lost all pieces of evidence that could corroborate her, as reporters for the same tab found out after they tracked her down and questioned her.

“News of the World reporters tracked down Nici to the room in the New York hotel just hours before off-duty New York cops arrived there with the writ from the angry football superstar and his wife Victoria,” the publication says.

“The celebrity couple are claiming the huge sum – around £16 million – PLUS punitive damages from the call girl and almost everyone connected with In Touch that printed her pack of lies, including writers, photographers, editors and distributors,” NOTW says.

“The 21-page document, already lodged with the Los Angeles court, accuses publisher Bauer and editor Michelle Lee of libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress, despite being expressly warned that the story was total fabrication,” the same report says.

For her part, Nici insists she’s been telling the truth. Even more, as the lawsuit against her was being filed in Los Angeles, she was still negotiating with other media outlets, trying to sell more details of the made-up story to them.

At the same time, she’s also complaining about the attention she’s getting, acting as if she didn’t want this kind of exposure in the media, telling News of the World that she never imagined she’d have to hide out in a hotel room for fear of the media.
