Ever since he ended his contract with Emporio Armani, whose face and body he was for the lingerie line in one of the most successful campaigns in fashion industry, word had it David Beckham wanted to design his own line.

As it turns out, the football star is on his way of doing just that, inspired by the success his wife, Victoria Beckham, has had in her foray in the fashion world.

However, while Victoria is working at building for herself a reputation as an established fashion designer with her gown collections, David is starting small – literally – with underwear.

Still, as MTV UK has learned from a very reliable source, that’s not to say he won’t branch out if his first endeavor turns out to be a hit.

Since there’s no reason to imagine it won’t be, we’ll probably be seeing more of Becks soon. Sales for Armani rose by 30 percent when he was their face – just to get an idea of how marketable he is.

“It’s thought David realized the potential for Beckham-branded undies after seeing the success of wife Victoria’s fashion ranges, particularly her dresses, which are a favorite of celebrities such Cameron Diaz, Dannii Minogue and Demi Moore,” MTV writes.

“The whole planet went nuts when David stripped off for his Armani ads. Sales went through the roof. It was decided not to renew the Armani contract and develop a business of David’s own,” says the well-placed source.

In other words, leaving Armani to design his own range was the next logical step.

“He has seen how fulfilling it has been for Victoria to branch out into business and relishes a similar challenge,” the spy explains.

“The former England captain is being advised by his manager Simon Fuller and fashion designer Stella McCartney's husband Alasdhair Willis, who are said to be ‘focused on turning David into a major fashion presence’,” MTV further reports.

In fact, the people behind David, as well as the football star himself, are so convinced that his underwear line will be a hit they’re already talking about what to do next.

“If the boxers and briefs sell well, Becks will reportedly follow up with male grooming products and moisturizers,” MTV notes.
