During its press conference at Gamescom 2010, EA Sports has announced the signing of David Beckham as brand ambassador for EA Sports Active 2. The game will be released on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii, the iPhone and the iPod Touch in Europe and Australia on the 19th of November 2010.

David Beckham seems to be quite happy with this deal as he is quoted a press release saying that, “EA SPORTS Active is impressive and includes many elements that I have seen throughout my football career.”

“I’m excited to collaborate with EA SPORTS who have a great track record in developing authentic and credible sports products and games over the years,” he concluded.

Jens Uwe Intat, the senior vice president and general manager of the European Publishing division of Electronic Arts said that, “David has always worked hard to stay in excellent shape and has inspired people around the world to make fitness a priority.”

He continued to comment that, “We’re excited about this collaboration with David as the high value he places on fitness makes him a perfect fit for EA SPORTS Active 2. We are looking forward to working with him to motivate people everywhere to get active.”

The deal involves the football superstar acting as the spokesperson of the franchise and participating in advertising and retail materials in all the countries where football is a popular sport. Thus, it is quite obvious that Beckham will mainly promote the EA Sports Active brand in Europe and Australia.

EA Sports Active 2 is hellbent on improving the muscular strength, endurance, flexibility and cardio of its players. Apparently, it does actually help people get fit, at least according to a study published a few months ago.

The game will ship with a Total Body Tracking system comprised of a heart rate monitor and motion tracking device that are meant to help the player see exactly where they are at in their road to body fitness. EA Sports Active is priced at 100 euro.
