David Beckham is done: in a statement cited by the BBC, the Paris Saint Germain footballer announces he’s retiring at the end of the current season, which means he has only 2 more games to go.

Mr. “Golden Balls” is hanging up his football shoes for good.

At 38 years old, Beckham boasts a string of trophies that attest his skills on the field, but also a business career like no other football star.

More notably, he chose to donate his PSG salary to charity.

He says the time has come to step back from sports and focus on his other projects.

“I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level,” he says of his 5-month contract with the football club.

“If you had told me as a young boy I would have played for and won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over 100 times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world, I would have told you it was a fantasy,” David adds.

He is clearly one of the few lucky ones to get to “realize those dreams,” the star muses.

Though his announcement is tinged with regret, he’s also looking forward to the future, which, knowing him, will certainly be a busy one.

“Nothing will ever completely replace playing the game I love. However, I feel like I'm starting a new adventure and I'm genuinely excited about what lies ahead,” Beckham says.

“I'm fortunate to have been given many opportunities throughout my career and now I feel it's my time to give back,” he adds, hinting that charity work will take up a considerable chunk of his time.
