A team of specialists working with the University of Georgia now claim that, as fun as it may be, dating in middle school is likely to negatively impact on several aspects of a teen's life.

Long story short, they maintain that those who have either a boyfriend or a girlfriend when at this age are four times more likely to become dropouts than those who stay single are.

Furthermore, they are two times more prone to becoming addicted to various harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco and marijuana, sources report.

Apparently, going on dates when still in middle school affects a teenagers study skills because of all the conundrum associated with the breaking-up stage of the relationship.

“When the couple splits, they have to continue to see each other in class and perhaps witness the ex-partner dating someone else. It is reasonable to think this scenario could be linked to depression and divert attention from studying,” the researchers say.
