Datawind is a very popular tablet brand for the educational sector in India

It appears that Datawind is moving faster than I predicted, and the Canadian tablet – and now – smartphone manufacturer has announced it is bringing the super-affordable UbiSlates tablets to US shores too.

Datawind will be porting the same UbiSlate 7Ci, 7C+ and 7Cz to American soil, a land heavily dominated by the iPad in the higher-end sector.

The lower-end hasn't been subject to a lot of research, so it’s a blurry territory in which Datawind hopes to dominate. With almost 20% of Americans not having Internet access, the company might find a lofty market-place here.

And it would be hard not to, as the UbiSlate 7Ci will become available in the US for just $38 / €27 (less than in the UK, but not with much), says VentureBeat. The slate packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor coupled with 512GB of RAM, a 7-inch TFT screen and only 8GB of storage.

While the cheapest slate relies on Wi-Fi for accessing the web, the upgraded version UbiSlate 7C+ (available for $100 / €73) comes with a year of free connectivity, which is pretty nice.

Datawind also launched the $35 / 25 Aakash 2 tablet in the US, hoping to attract every living soul out there to join in the technological era. Will it succeed?
