Kingston didn't want to let the week go by without some sort of product launch, so it expanded the DataTraveler collection of flash drive units with a model aimed at so-called road warriors.

After having said its piece on the memory card and SSD fronts, Kingston is now using the black and red color theme on a new flash drive.

Said USB stick, really a whole line in and of itself, is actually an addition to the existing collection of DataTraveler USB drives.

As their name implies, these items are intended for those who hit the road often, so they often have features that one might expect of rugged drives and such.

The DataTraveler R400 is no exception to this, since it comes with a rubberized casing, colored black and red.

They measure 70 x 22.68 x 12.40 mm and come in 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB, respectively.

In that order, their prices are of €6.85, €11.51, €18.97 and €44.04, which would translate into 5 Euro, 8.4 Euro, 14 Euro and 32 Euro, respectively.

Note that these prices are based on the current exchange rate and may not be the same as those that Kingston will choose for them when they reach the US, if ever.

That said, the items make do without the Super Speed USB 3.0 interface, 5 Gbps data rates or no.

This leaves them with transfer speeds of up to 25 MB/s when reading and 10 MB/s when writing, the 4 GB drive being the slowest.

For those who want further numbers, this least capacious, but also cheapest, drive settles for 15 MB/s and 8 MB/s, respectively.

Other things worthy of mention are the facts that the newcomers are shock-resistant and sell with a five-year warranty. The product page, located here, contains all existing info.
