Members of the Tar Sands Blockade have been protesting the Keystone pipeline for quite some time now, and some of them even experienced rather violent run-ins with the police.
Recent news on this topic informs us that actress Daryl Hannah also found herself in a similar position after trying to help a ranch owner keep bulldozers of her lands.
Thus, this past Thursday, Hannah joined hands with 78-year-old Mrs. Fairchild.
The two took a very strong stand against the building of the Keystone pipeline by posting themselves in front of the bulldozers and not allowing them to pass through this Winnsboro property.
Apparently, the actress even decided to climb on these machineries at one point, which is why the police decided to arrest her, together with the 78-year-old landowner.
Both women were taken to the Wood County Jail.
Interestingly enough, this is not the first time when Daryl Hannah gets arrested for going against the construction of this pipeline.
Thus, it was only last year when she took part in a similar protest organized in Washington, and ended up being taken away by police forces together with various scientists and activists who shared her beliefs.
Back then, 1253 people were arrested throughout a period of only two weeks. Most of them were accused of civil disobedience.
“I am standing in solidarity with the farmers, ranchers, and landowners who have been bullied, coerced, and threatened by TransCanada. Texans do not want this toxic export pipeline coming through and compromising their land and water,” the actress told members of the press, in order to justify her actions.
Furthermore, “I couldn’t be prouder to take a stand with my new inspiration, Eleanor [Mrs. Fairchild]. We’re rising up to defend homes here and now, because if a multinational corporation like TransCanada can come in and steal private property from Texans, then they’ll do it to anyone.”
