Darkwood, a top-down survival game developed and published by the Acid Wizard Studio, has arrived on Steam for Linux.

The developers say about the game that it's a survival, exploration, and fear title set in mysterious woods somewhere in the territory of the Soviet Bloc. There's an abundance of survival titles now on Steam and especially in the Early Access Game program.

Fortunately for Darkwood, this doesn't seem to be your regular survival game. The fact that it has a top-down perspective immediately sets it apart from everything else. So far, only some of the features have been integrated, like the prologue, the first chapter of the game, several skills and perks to choose from, a few enemies, choices and consequences, a few melee and ranged weapons, and a few NPCs.

“It is a top-down, free-roam, surreal horror experience with a randomized world, taking cues from classic games, where oftentimes you had to figure things out for yourself. By blending RPG, roguelike and adventure elements together with a challenging difficulty, Darkwood aims to please players craving for a deep and rewarding experience,” reads the Steam entry.

The Linux system requirements are not very high and players will need a moderately powerful computer: Ubuntu 12.04 or later, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz or equivalent, 3 GB of RAM, and a Geforce 8800GT / ATI Radeon HD 4850 video card.

Keep in mind that this title is still in development and it's part of the Early Access Game program.
