After a launch schedule for the Xbox Live service spoiled the beans, BioWare decided to come out and officially talk about the new downloadable content that their Dragon Age: Origins would be getting in the coming weeks. The new pack will be called Darkspawn Chronicles and is set to arrive on May 18 and will actually allow players to take control of a servant of the Archdemon and fight against the Grey Wardens and their allies.

The fresh package will cost 400 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360 and 400 BioWare Points on the PC, which is roughly equivalent to 5 dollars. BioWare is also saying that Darkspawn Chronicles will arrive on the PlayStation 3 but that a launch date has not yet been decided on. Meanwhile, those who game on the Sony made home console can look forward to a patch that fixes the issues Dragon Age has on the platform.

In Darkspawn Chronicles, those interested in a totally new experience in the game universe will become a Hurlock vanguard, a powerful Darkspawn who has the ability to recruit any other creature to fight for him. The new content is set in an alternate timeline where the protagonist of Dragon Age dies in the Joining ceremony and where the Darkspawn will face an adventurer party led by Alistair. Players will be able to control a variety of new units, including Genlocks, Hurlocks, the stealthy Shrieks and the huge Ogres.

BioWare has confirmed that players will be able to play through the Fall of Denerim section as the Darkspawn and experience the way the horde fights. There's also a special item, which can be used in both Origins and in The Awakening expansions. Playing as the Darkspawn is an interesting proposition and will likely draw in a significant number of those who loved Dragon Age: Origins when it came out in 2009 and the content that BioWare has put out since then.
