THQ and Vigil Games have finally pinned a release date onto Darksiders II, their upcoming hack and slash title, which is now set to appear in June, alongside a novel based on the series.

Darksiders II wants to improve on the already impressive original, while introducing a new protagonist, in the form of Death, the brother of War, the main character from the first game.

After quite a long time without a concrete release date, THQ, its publisher, and Vigil Games, its developer, have confirmed that Darksiders II will be out in June.

What’s more, besides the actual game, a tie-in book called Darksiders: The Abomination Vault is also scheduled to arrive. The book is written by Ari Marmell, whose previous works include The Conqueror’s Shadow, The Warlord’s Legacy, and even a book based on the Magic: The Gathering card game.

The novel takes place a millennia before the first game and sees the Horsemen of the Apocalypse uncover a plot to resurrect ancient weapons of great power. Death, alongside War, must track down and neutralize the mysterious individuals behind this attempt, before the entire universe is plunged into a huge conflict.

Expect a more specific release for both Darksiders II and The Abomination Vault in the near future.
