A third game in the series won't appear anytime soon, however

Nordic Games, the publisher who acquired many of THQ's remaining franchises, including Darksiders or Red Faction, has confirmed that it's still talking with actual development studios and doesn't want to produce any low-quality sequels.

The remainder of THQ's portfolio was auctioned off earlier this week to several interested parties but, by far, the biggest buyer was Nordic Games, who acquired big franchises like Darksiders and Red Faction, not to mention the rights to smaller titles like MX vs. ATV, Supreme Commander, and much more.

According to the owner and CEO of Nordic Games, Lars Wingefors, he was immediately assaulted with offers from developers after the announcement of the acquisition but, as of yet, the publisher hasn't decided on a development partner.

"I'm impressed with the love and interest that those IPs, especially Darksiders, are bringing it. You can see Nordic Game as a middle man in order to create great new sequels. If we can find the right team with the right terms, I'm sure we can find the right financial solution to make it happen," he told GameInformer.

"I understand the potential of the IPs. I respect the original creators and the creative people who are able to create sequels. In the past 24 hours, we have been contacted and there have been a few discussions (but I can't confirm names)."

When asked if Crytek USA, the new team formed by the actual developers of the Darksiders games, Vigil, contacted Nordic, Wingefors side-stepped the question and said that nothing is certain and that a new Darksiders wouldn't appear anytime soon.

"Officially, we haven't talked to any partners. My colleagues in Austria are handling the business development and are handling all those contacts. We'll be sitting down, I think, in the next week to discuss all those options. It takes a very long time to make games. You won't see a new Darksiders this year."

Considering neither of the franchises was expecting any sequels, fans shouldn't look forward to new installments anytime soon.
