At least a virtual kind of apocalypse will happen in 2012, as THQ has announced that a sequel to the 2010 breakthrough hit Darksiders will be arriving at some point during that year. The publisher didn't share any other details about Darksiders 2, as the project is probably still in its early stages of development.

The release date, however, does not seem to be just a coincidence and it will be very interesting to see what the THQ marketing department will cook up for the title's promotion. In an interview with Game Axis, Luis Gigliotti, creative director at THQ, additionally revealed that this sequel might include multiplayer, as the developer, Vigil Games, was planning to bring in the other three horsemen of the Apocalypse to join War.

Other Darksiders-related news does not bring good tidings for PC gamers. THQ has silently postponed the PC version of Darksiders for September 2010. While it was initially set to be launched on the 24th of June, Amazon and Steam pre-orders now list the game for a September release. The publisher has not issued an official statement about this delay yet.

Darksiders is a third-person action adventure game that puts players in the role of War, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. The character is tasked with stopping the Apocalypse, as it has been brought about too early. He must explore a war-torn and ravaged Earth and defeat both the forces of Heaven and the forces of Hell that want to break the balance of the world by destroying the Seventh Seal.

Darksiders takes its inspiration from Nintendo's Zelda games, engaging the player in combat, puzzles and non-linear exploration. As the title progresses, War receives new weapons and abilities that enable him to travel to new locations and defeat more dangerous enemies. It was released on the 5th of January, 2010 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
