Actress Jennifer Connelly does not share the common opinion that "Dark Water" is a horror film. Apparently, Connelly told reporters that it is more of a psychological movie, reports Monsters and Critics.
"I'm reluctant to call it a horror film. It's more of a psychological thriller -- a ghost story. To me, I associate `horror` film with more gore - slasher films. There's no blood here. You get through lots of the film and no one has died."
The story of the movie directed by Hideo Nakata revolves around a young mother who goes to extreme lengths to solve a mystery and protect her daughter.
Jennifer Connelly plays Dahlia Williams, a woman who is about to start a new life and get used to a new job and a new apartment. Dahlia wants to entirely devote herself to raising her daughter, Ceci. As strange happenings cause her imagination run wild and dark water leaks surround her, she tries to hold on and find the real cause of this mind game.
Academy Award-winner Jennifer Connelly stars in this psychological thriller in the company of a stellar cast, including Academy Award-nominees John C. Reilly, Tim Roth, and Pete Postlethwaite, as well as Dougray Scott, Camryn Manheim and newcomer Ariel Gade.
