The lack of Jedi means that gamers can enjoy an amoral game

One of the big selling points for the upcoming Star Wars 1313 is a darker tone and the development team at LucasArts says that it has been hard to part with the traditional style of the series.

Dominic Robilliard, the creative director working at LucasArts, tells the Official Xbox Magazine that the darker approach has been “daunting at first. We talk a lot about what a precious responsibility that is in terms of fan expectation.”

“But once you kind of get stuck into it, and you get clear all of the things you have to acknowledge and be careful with – in terms of how this integrates with the Star Wars universe.” he then argues.

“Having this guy who is much more vulnerable in the way you can relate to, it’s much more grounded. It’s a great backdrop and feel for these darker and more sinister characters. Getting to play around in the part of the galaxy that produced characters like Han Solo and Jabba the Hutt is just – I grew up with the original trilogy – so it’s just something that is really exciting,” he further says.

Robilliard unveils that the movie division at LucasArts has given its blessing to Star Wars 1313, which means that the team working on the game has a lot of freedom in creating the setting and the characters.

Star Wars 1313 takes place on Coruscant, deep in the core of the planet where the game world is inhabited by smugglers and other shady characters.

The hero lacks any Jedi abilities and much of the game will be linked to exploration and character interaction.

Star Wars 1313 is set to launch during 2013 and so far the game has only been confirmed for the PC, which probably means that it will also arrive on next-generation devices from Microsoft and Sony.
