From Software, the developer of the Souls series as well as the upcoming Bloodborne, has big plans for the future of the role-playing franchise, as Dark Souls 2 Director Yui Tanimura confirms that there are some mind-blowing internal planning documents traveling through the studio.

Japanese developer From Software has been around for quite some time now, but it's only gained critical acclaim after releasing the extremely challenging Demon's Souls role-playing experience for the PS3 many years ago.

The studio followed up on that success with Dark Souls, a spiritual successor, and then with Dark Souls 2, which attained even better sales and critical reception. All titles boasted tough enemies, mechanics that required nothing but perfection, and allowed players to boast about their skills.

Currently, the studio is working hard on Bloodborne, in collaboration with Sony's Japan team, and is set to release it in March exclusively for the PS4.

From Software is thinking about the future of Dark Souls

Even so, the Japanese team is thinking about the future of the Dark Souls series, and through the voice of Dark Souls 2 Director Yui Tanimura, it confirms that the new-generation consoles offer plenty of power that can be used to bring to life many new enemies.

"Going forward in terms of future games in the series, there are definitely more possibilities in terms of new enemies that take advantage of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One," Tanimura tells IGN.

From Software is already coming to grips with the new consoles by bringing Bloodborne to the PS4, as well as by porting Dark Souls 2 onto the PS4 and Xbox One via the special Scholar of the First Sin version that's scheduled to debut in April.

There are some mind-blowing ideas at the studio

What's more, Tanimura also hypes up some of the early ideas that are floating around the studio, saying that some the internal documents are going to blow the minds of fans from all around the world.

"I’m sure it's not a secret there are all kinds of possibilities for the future, especially with this new hardware and much expertise going forward. There are some planning documents that we have internally that would blow your head off," he adds.

Even so, don't expect a Dark Souls 3 anytime soon, as From Software is quite busy with both Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, which will both appear in spring of next year.
